With the upcoming 11th World Falun Dafa Day on 13 May 2003, an Australian practitioner remembers a past event held to celebrate World Falun Dafa Day, 2002.
Golden Lotus Exhibition Celebrates World Falun Dafa Day 2002
The Golden Lotus Exhibition organised by Falun Dafa volunteers and funded by the artists themselves, is part of the 2002 World Falun Dafa Day activities.
Advertised widely as part of the annual Darling Harbour Garden Exhibition, the Golden Lotus Exhibition was officially opened on May 1st by Thomas Jordon.
A large-scale origami lotus flower display, fine embroideries, childrens’ art work and stone carvings are on display in the IBM building in Sussex Street. A large Falun and its description, hangs in the main entrance foyer. The exhibition can be viewed between the hours of 9.00 – 6.00, Monday to Friday and Saturday 11th May and Sunday 12th May 2002.
The IBM building is a beautifully presented office complex, open to the general public as a walkway from the busy City Business District through to Darling Harbour.
The Light of the Lotus is the centrepiece of the exhibition and drapes gracefully around the windows of the Darling Harbour entrance into this very pleasant building. The handmade origami lotus flowers symbolise the hope for an end to the suffering in China due to the persecution of Falun Dafa since 1999.
This floral artwork is 3.8 metres high and extends around ten glass panels that look out into a beautiful and tranquil garden. Delicate embroideries of Chinese cultural images often associated with Qigong cultivation systems, and drawings by children relating to the practice of Truth, Compassion and Forbearance in their lives, add to this visually pleasing blend of peaceful and harmonious images.
The Light of the Lotus has had such a positive response from many people that it will become a permanent fixture within the building as it is featured. A plaque recognising this floral display as being ‘kindly donated by Falun Dafa’ is to be organised.
A stone carving with the words Zhen, Shan, Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance), as well as two beautiful stone relief carvings of the Falun emblem will remain permanently in the beautiful garden. A plaque is to be organised also.
