Visiting Chinese officials face lawsuit and human rights demonstration

Sydney, Tuesday 8 November 2005: Falun Gong practitioners will form a “Great Wall of Courage” with banners along George St, Sydney in front of the Hilton Hotel where hundreds of Chinese delegates will be attending the China Guangdong – Australia Business Conference 2005. The peaceful appeal is to highlight torture and abuse against Falun Gong practitioners in China and imminent legal action facing one of the top officials of the delegation —Zhang Dejiang, Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Committee of Guangdong Province by Australian residents who have been victims of torture in Guangdong Province, China for practicing Falun Gong.

Last month, the Falun Dafa Association issued a statement throughout the world that, “From today [9 Oct 2005] on, overseas Falun Gong practitioners will file civil or criminal lawsuits against all important government or CCP officials who participate in or continue to implement the persecution of Falun Gong… For all those who have committed crimes against Falun Gong but want now to correct their mistakes, they can submit, under safe circumstances, a guarantee statement or regret letter to Clearwisdom.Net or to any regional Falun Dafa Association to be archived.”

Zhang Dejiang is among a group of top government officials in China who have been involved in implementing and sustaining a campaign of eradication of Falun Gong practitioners in China, particularly in Guangdong and Zhejiang Provinces. This campaign includes, but is not limited to, extra-judicial killing, arbitrary detention, forced labour, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, and torture.

“Australia should maintain the integrity of our international legal and moral obligations; show the world that we do value basic human and will not trade human rights for money”, said Kay Rubacek, Falun Gong spokesperson.
