The ancient Chinese meditation system, Falun Dafa, teaches how to reduce conflict
and stress, while increasing energy levels and harmony.
Classes are offered free and the exercises are suitable for all ages and fitness
levels.
Falun Dafa instructor John Dowie said he, his wife and their two children,
aged 16 and 14, practised the five exercises and had applied the principles
of truthfulness, compassion and forbearance in their work, social and family
lives. "These three principles have had a very profound effect on our lives,"
John said.
"It teaches us to go back to basics and have better understanding of others.
"My wife and I have been practising it for five years and it has had so
many benefits in our lives.
"We didn’t want to push it on to our children but they saw the changes
in us, picked up the book and started practising themselves.
"It teaches us to look within whenever there is conflict.
"We now have next to nil conflict in our family."
He said Falun Dafa is not a religion. It is five gentle exercises, which are
practised in parks – Buddha Showing 1000 hands, The Falun Standing Stance, Penetrating
the Two Cosmic Extremes, Falun Heavenly Circuit and Way of Strengthening Divine
Powers.
A book of principles is read with the exercises.
"The exercises are very gentle, beautiful and peaceful," John said.
"It puts you in a very tranquil state."
Free classes are held near the Peregian Beach Surf Life Saving Club every Saturday,
from 8-10am.
