Rally at Parliament House to expose CCP harassment in Australia

Canberra, (August 31, 2025) – Australian-based targets of China’s transnational repression will speak out at a rally at Parliament House on Tuesday 2 September, urging the Australian Government to protect diaspora communities from Chinese Communist Party (CCP) interference.

The Falun Dafa Association of Australia, together with members of the Tibetan community, will call on elected representatives to take decisive action against the rising tide of foreign interference and transnational repression carried out by the CCP on Australian soil.

In the past year, the Falun Gong (Falun Dafa) community worldwide has faced a sharp escalation of repression. Shen Yun Performing Arts – a company founded by Falun Gong practitioners to showcase traditional Chinese culture with the theme China before Communism – has been repeatedly targeted by bomb threats, venue intimidation, and violent threats linked to the CCP. These attacks are not isolated incidents against a performing arts company, but part of a broader campaign of transnational repression aimed at silencing Falun Gong abroad.

Speakers from the Falun Dafa Association of Australia, the Parliament for Tibetan Government in Exile, and victims of the CCP’s transnational repression will share personal accounts of local intimidation, highlighting the growing pattern of harassment that undermines freedom and sovereignty in Australia.

Dr Lucy Zhao, president of the Falun Dafa Association of Australia, welcomed the stance taken by ASIO in confronting the issue.

We agree with Director-General Mike Burgess that it’s ‘an appalling assault on Australian values, freedoms and sovereignty’. The rise in transnational repression is not only a direct attack on individuals in our communities – it undermines Australia’s democratic freedoms and threatens our national sovereignty. Australians must not live in fear of intimidation orchestrated by a foreign government,” Dr Zhao said.

The rally seeks to raise awareness of the impact of transnational repression and calls for practical measures from the Australian Government to safeguard the rights and freedoms of all Australians and protect social cohesion.
