Rally and Parade Against HK’s Proposed Article 23 Legislation and Mock Public Trial of Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin in Brisbane(Photos)

by Falun Dafa Practitioners in Queensland

On Saturday, 28 June 2003, practitioners from southeast Queensland,
held a rally against Article 23 and a public mock trial of former Chinese President
Jiang Zemin in front of Town Hall in Brisbane. The Queensland spokesperson for
the Greens, who have given tremendous support nationally to practitioners, was
the guest speaker.

Practitioners set up a 6×3 metre gazebo with one side covered by hanging photos
of Falun Dafa events as well as a history of the persecution of Falun Dafa in
China. This attracted many passers-by who often discussed the practice and the
persecution with practitioners. There were also tables of truth clarifying information
along with partition boards displaying some of the “Journey of Falun Dafa”
photos. Many people were on the square and over 1000 brochures and flyers were
passed out.

Article 23 poster boards

On the other side of the gazebo, we set up the mock trial of Jiang. Just before
the trial was held, the Queensland spokesperson for Falun Dafa explained why
we were on the square and what we were doing. People were told how the Chinese
regime is pushing this legislation to suppress the freedoms that Hong Kong cherishes
in order to control groups that it doesn’t like and that are an embarrassment
to it because they tell the true situation of what’s happening in China, such
as Falun Dafa. The Greens spokesperson then said a few words about how he came
to know about the true situation in China by meeting practitioners the previous
year and that the Greens totally support Falun Dafa practitioners in their struggle.
He mentioned how Article 23 will adversely affect Hong Kong and the Falun Dafa
practitioners there and told us to keep carrying on. After this, the mock trial
of Jiang began.

Judge One of the witnesses

The mock trial was presented as a dream, to allow for more poetic license,
with a dummy of Jiang lying in bed and being awakened by the convening of the
Court of Human Decency and Morality. As the court was called into session, the
judge read out many charges against Jiang. A number of witnesses were called
up to tell their stories with Jiang refuting their testimony. After hearing
one particularly graphic example of persecution, Jiang said, “How would
you like to hear a song – or, or hear me recite some poetry in English? That
always distracts everyone when I visit other countries. I can’t allow people
to be deceived by the truth!” In the end, the judge stops the testimony
and pounds his gavel three times saying: “Enough, enough, enough! I’ve
heard enough of these horrific crimes. I can’t stand to listen to any more.
Jiang, I find you guilty as charged of all these crimes against humanity. In
this Court of Human Decency and Morality, your own actions are your judge and
your crimes now sentence you. Your evil deeds are beyond comprehension and beyond
anything human. There’s a universal law which states that good is rewarded with
good and evil with evil. Your evil deeds have now come to an end, Jiang – and
so have you!” The Green’s spokesperson thought this was well done and an
effective way to present what Jiang has done.

Beginning parade

Banners in downtown Brisbane

Following the mock trial, over 50 practitioners held a parade through downtown
Brisbane with many banners and poster boards telling people about article 23
and the crimes of Jiang. This day seemed to have an unusually large number of
people in the downtown area so our parade was witnessed by many people. More
and more people are getting to know the truth and are openly showing their support.
The old forces are definitely getting weaker and events like this are reverberating
through the heavens.
