The river walk stage, Sunshine Plaza, Maroochydore, came alive with song and dance as a ‘Petals of Peace’ Cultural Event showcasing the beauty of traditional Chinese dance, music and Falun Dafa exercises delighted shoppers at the Sunshine Coast’s largest Shopping Centre on Saturday Jan 3, 2004. The cultural event was dedicated to a 3-year-old Australian-Chinese girl named Fadu, who lost her Dad due to the persecution of Falun Dafa in China, and to other children suffering a similar plight. With a brightly coloured pink and gold backdrop, which read “Petals of Peace” and “Falun Dafa around the world”, young girls wearing colourful traditional costumes adorned the stage. The highlights of the stage entertainment included Chinese dances with the Fairy dance and Lotus dance mesmerising the children in the audience. An ensemble of 4 Western practitioners performed several moving songs, including the inspirational song “Petals of Peace”, with the theme of caring for all children, which was specifically written for the ‘Petals of Peace’ project. Both adults and children were delighted to take home a beautiful lotus flower as a reminder of the event. The cultural event was part of the ‘Petals of Peace’ initiative that has been shared with the local community over recent months. Numerous ‘Petals of Peace’ origami lotus folding workshops and displays at local libraries, primary schools and shopping centres have been held. Both young and old alike have enjoyed folding the paper lotus flowers with the message of peace for a brighter future for all children— with special thoughts for children still living under the persecution of Falun Dafa in China.
