The practitioners of a weekly practice site held at the Pine Street Creative Arts Centre, were invited to participate in ‘Smart Arts’ (The South Sydney Creative arts and Cultural Youth Festival) held on the 5th of April 2003.
The festival was scheduled to begin at 2pm and last into the night. Amidst the sounds of heavy African beats the Falun Dafa stall sat still as the only store to receive a beam of sunlight, shining through the buildings of the urban surrounds. On the side where the sun shone most brightly a painting of a heavenly beauty with the words “Peaceful Appeal” could be seen. Throughout the day, young practitioners demonstrated the exercises for people beside the stall.
At 3pm three dancers arrived to perform movements inspired by the traditions of the Tang Dynasty in order to celebrate the beauty of Chinese culture where the practice of Falun Dafa originates. The Tang Dynasty is widely considered as the most culturally prosperous and virtuous periods of Chinese history and was received well by the youth of Sydney.
As a result of the joint efforts made by the Creative Arts Centre, South Sydney council and Dafa practitioners, many people received flyers and vcds explaining the principles of the practice and the persecution of practitioners living in China. In addition, four new people attended the weekly practice to learn the exercises the following week.
