‘Noosa News’ – A Letter to Editor

China’s regime has recently stretched its talons to South Africa by attempting to take the lives of Australian citizens.

Sydney resident, father of two, David Liang, was among nine Australians who arrived in South Africa on 28th June to file a lawsuit against China’s Vice-president, Zeng Qinghong and Trade Minister, Bo Xilai for crimes against humanity. David and the others intended to participate in a press conference to expose these official’s roles in the ongoing persecution against Falun Gong, a peaceful exercise and meditation practice banned in China due to its immense popularity.

While driving from the Johannesburg Airport, a car overtook David’s vehicle at high speed and fired five shots from a suspected AK-47 rifle, seriously wounding David’s feet and forcing him off the road. David has now just arrived back in Sydney and is still being hospitalised for his injuries, while the South African police are investigating this case of attempted murder suspecting professional gunmen behind the shooting.

Rather than to awaken national condemnation of such a crime against our own citizens, much of our media has actually remained silent in reporting this incident. How can we, as a civilised and democratic society, find our conscience to oppose acts of terrorism and help bring those responsible to justice when we are not informed of such matters?
