At the press conference on July 19, 2003, New Zealand's MPs, including United
Future MP Bernie Ogilvy, Green MP Keith Locke, ACT's Mr. Rodney Hyde and
representative of Amnesty International, guests and several Falun Gong
practitioners gave speeches.
A practitioner from the Mainland China introduced to the audience the
persecution she had suffered. Another practitioner who returned to China in late
1999 to appeal for Falun Gong presented inhuman mistreatment and abuse he had
suffered in a detention center in China.
The Act Party MP condemned the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in
China. A Green Party MP expressed his continuous support for Falun Gong
practitioners and expressed his opposition to the suppression of Falun Gong and
Hong Kong Article 23 legislation.
The conference was followed by a march, led with a huge wreath in memorial,
listing the names of Falun Gong practitioners who have been tortured to death
over the past four years and their photos. It clearly informed people of the
brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. The parade lasted for
an hour.
