Memorial for Liu Chengjun Who Died from Torture in Chinese Prison(Photo)

At 11:30am, December 31, 2003, more than a hundred
people joined a press conference that was held by Falun Gong practitioners in front of the Sydney
Chinese Consulate, to listen to the tragic incident of Liu Chengjun, a Falun
Gong practitioner, who was tortured to death on 26 December 2003 in prison
in Jilin province. Liu Chengjun courageously tapped into the Chinese state
run television system to broadcast the truth of the persecution of Falun
Gong. This TV broadcast reached hundreds of thousands of Chinese and was
reported by the world media.

Today, the practitioners strongly condemned the Jiang regime’s torture of Falun
Gong practitioner for breaking the information blockade. They called for punishing
the evil policemen and the murderers in Changchun City, bringing Dictator Jiang
to justice and ending the persecution of Falun Gong.
Kay Rubacek, Falun Dafa spokesperson said in her statement, "In Australia
we have the opportunity to step forward and help others in need." She also
encouraged the public and the Australian government to help end the persecution
by exposing the serious human rights violations towards Falun Gong practitioners
in China.

Li Ying , a recently released Falun Gong practitioner from Shanghai, also spoke
at the press conference. Li Ying said: "Other [Falun Gong practitioners]
were tortured far worse than me. I found out that it was because of pressure
from my fiancée in Australia and the Australian people that my treatment
was better and my release was secured."

Mr. Liu’s death in custody is testimony to China’s attempts to keep a tight
grip on the information blockade and Jiang’s campaign to eradicate Falun Gong
before the 2008 Olympics. To date, 8 practitioners have died because of the
TV insertion.

Even though it is New Year’s Eve, many passers-by heard the tragic story of
the Falun Gong practitioners in China.
