A FESTIVAL will be held to raise money to help rescue Falun Gong orphans and spread
the word of the persecution happening in China.
Hosted by Global Mission to
Rescue, festival co-ordinator Janine Rankin said children in China were the most
innocent and silent victims of the Chinese communist regime’s relentless policy
of oppression and brutal persecution of Falun Gong.
"There are so
many orphaned kids because their parents practised Falun Gong," Ms Rankin
said.
"It’s hard for anyone to comprehend but it’s still happening.
"The festival is part of a long-term project to help raise funds and
get children out of China and give them an education.
"Hopefully the
festival will awaken people to what is really happening in China and the reality
of how Falun Gong can help people."
Global Mission to Rescue is an
international non-profit human rights organisation and was formed in 2002. There
are 18 branches across North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.
The festival,
which is supported by patron Bev Brock and hosted by Jo Pearson, will bring together
performers and visitors from different cultures and will include an art exhibition,
auction, face painting and food stalls.
Dancers and musicians from nations
including Africa, Italy and China will perform on the day.
All proceeds
will go to the Global Mission’s fund to rescue victimised children and provide
them with a quality education and living environment.
The festival will
be held on Sunday, November 20, at Mia Mia Gallery, Westerfolds Park, Fitzsimons
Lane, Templestowe, from 10am-7pm.
