Letter to MP – Conscience of the Australian Government

25th November 2005

Dear Member of Parliament,

Recently I had a meeting with my local MP. In regards to the issue of the human rights in China, he directly said, he is only interested in local things, otherwise he does not want to get involved.

As a farmer, it is fine to mind the own backyard, but as a member of parliament of a country, he chooses to be silent while he is capable of speaking up for the justice. I was also frank, I am not asking you to support the Falun Gong principles, but to support the freedom of believing in Falun Gong and other religions, and support the basic human rights, whether it is in Australia, China or other places.

Although Australia and China have a closer trade relationship, is it a proud thing to shake hands with a dictatorship country that is still killing its own people? Just like many European countries turned a blind eye to Hitler’s atrocities, and only cared about doing business with the dictatorship government, in the end they are the ones that got hurt.

A country without democracy and human rights is not only a disaster to its people, but also a threat to the whole world.

On July 14, the Chinese Communist Party’s Major-General Zhu Chenghu made a statement that China would attack over one hundred American cities with nuclear weapons if the United States interferes in a war between Communist China and Taiwan. When China becomes really powerful, can you say that it won’t be a threat to Australia? Being key national officials, can we have greater foresight?

Furthermore, since the publishing of the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party”, over 5 million people have withdrawn from the Chinese Communist Party. The party members are abandoning Chinese Communism, defections like Chen Yonglin, the former first secretary of the Chinese Consulate in Sydney have actually happened in many countries in the world, but these are not exposed to the media and are unknown to the public. In regards to this, Premier Wen Jiabao held an urgent meeting in July to discuss how to prevent more diplomats from escaping and quitting from the Party. I would like to ask, how can a country claim to be strong and have so many people wanting to flee to other countries?

The Berlin wall fell after 3 million people ran away from East German to West German, and before Russian Communism collapsed 4 million party members had withdrew from the party. With more than 5 million people who quit from the Chinese Communist Party, an average of 20,000 to 30,000 resignations per day, the collapse of the Chinese Communist Party can be expected soon.

When history passes, when the bloody debts of the Chinese Communist Party are brought out on the table, when our people and future generations ask us, can we say because of selfishness, distance and money, we are avoiding even offering a signature of support for
people who are persecuted.

All it takes for evil to prevail is for good people to stay silent!

Yours truly,

Leon Wang

Dear Member of Parliament,

As a democratic country, the Australian government is elected by people, and therefore has a duty to protect its people’s interests.

We Falun Gong practitioners conduct peaceful appeals to “urge the Chinese Communist Party to stop the brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, and bring the murderers to justice.”

Instead of publicly condemning the violation of human rights and belief of the Chinese Communist government, Mr. Downer has been signing a certificate to restrict our peaceful appeal in front of the Chinese Embassy in Canberra for three years. This act is a participation in the persecution, and seriously violates people’s rights and damages the image of the nation. It shows the government is compromising to the unreasonable requests of the Chinese Communist government for temporary trade benefit, and disregards the dignity of the country and people’s rights.

We urge the Australian government to step out, condemn the brutal persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist government, and help bring peace to the world.

Yours truly,

Mei Fen Wang
