Known human rights abuser visits Sydney today upon government invitation

SYDNEY (05/11/08) – One of the four senior Chinese officials responsible for the
persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China, Zhou Yongkang, is arriving in
Sydney today upon invitation by the Australian Government.
A summons for a criminal case against Zhou for crimes of torture was filed in
the Supreme Court of NSW on Monday (3/11/08), although his crimes are far greater
than torture alone.
"Australians need to know that such an international criminal, not unlike
one of Hitler’s leading henchmen, is being invited into our country," says
Falun Gong spokesperson Kay Rubacek. "Does the Australian Government really
know who they are welcoming?"
Zhou is the last of the four primary criminals to still hold a position of power
within the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and was originally promoted by the former
head of the CCP, Jiang Zemin because of his devotion to Jiang’s campaign to "eradicate"
Falun Gong during his time as CCP Secretary in Sichuan Province. Jiang Zemin has
also been sued in the Supreme Court of NSW for torture in a civil case. A hearing
was held on September 15 and is now awaiting a final judgment.
Zhou’s responsibilities in the persecution of Falun Gong include:
" Torture, often resulting in death, of tens of thousands of innocent Falun
Gong practitioners by Chinese police under his command as Minister of Public Security
" Directing the Chinese legal system to be used as an illegal punishment
tool
" The ‘Golden Shield’ Internet censorship and surveillance project
" Instigating crackdowns before and during the Beijing Olympics when over
8000 Falun Gong practitioners were arrested
" Instigating CCP supporters to abuse and beat Falun Gong practitioners in
New York, USA

What is Falun Gong?
Falun Gong (Falun Dafa) is a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline consisting
of meditation, gentle "qigong" exercises and moral teachings guided
by the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.
For the past nine years, practitioners in China have been the subject of a relentless
campaign of eradication by the CCP, tantamount to genocide.

Who is Zhou Yongkang?

Zhou is currently a member of the nine-man Politburo Standing Committee (the
leadership group of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)), and Secretary of the
Committee of the Political and Judicial Affairs of the CCP’s Central Committee
(which controls Chinese courts). He was Secretary of the Communist Party Committee
of Sichuan Province from 1999 to 2002 and the Chinese Minister of Public Security
from 2002 to 2007 and head of Beijing Olympics security.

Zhou Yongkang’s role in persecuting Falun Gong
Zhou was promoted by the former head of the CCP, Jiang Zemin, because of his
devotion to Jiang’s campaign to eliminate Falun Gong during his time as CCP
Secretary in Sichuan. Zhou planned, ordered, and incited police and other security
forces in a nationwide campaign of persecution against Falun Gong practitioners
involving mass arbitrary detention, forced labour, cruel, inhuman and degrading
treatment, torture and extra-judicial killing that includes the harvesting of
the victim’s organs without their consent for the purpose of for-profit transplants.
Zhou had command responsibility, controlled and abetted such forces in their
commission of these abuses.

There are now 3192 documented deaths of Falun Gong practitioners in China while
over one million are interned in labour camps and prisons across China.
In his current role as head of the Committee of Political and Judicial Affairs
of the CCP’s Central Committee Zhou has control over the Ministry of Public
Security, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the
Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of State Security. This Committee directs
court decisions in China and plays a key role in using the Chinese legal system
as an illegal punishment tool for the CCP to eradicate Falun Gong practitioners.

Zhou Yongkang and Internet censorship in China
As head of Public Security, Zhou Yongkang was one of the key Party leadership
group for the ‘Golden Shield’ Internet censorship and surveillance project which
had the stated aim of combating Falun Gong. The CCP’s Internet control was exposed
during the Beijing Olympics.

Zhou Yongkang and attacks in New York, USA
In May 2008 in Flushing, New York, Zhou instigated supporters of the Chinese
regime to abuse and beat up Falun Gong practitioners who support the quitting
the CCP activity, which has been documented by the NY Police Department. Through
overseas intelligence organisations, such as
Chinese community organisations and Chinese students and scholars associations
under the Chinese Communist regime’s control, Zhou Yongkang has incited hatred
and directed thugs to initiate conflict in San Francisco, New York, and Hong
Kong.

Zhou Yongkang and Olympics crackdowns in China
Zhou was in charge of security at the Beijing Olympics and instigated crackdowns
before and during the Olympics when over 8,000 Falun Gong practitioners were
arrested across the country and declared: "We must strike hard at hostile
forces at home and abroad, such as heretical
organizations like the Falun Gong."
