Gold Coast Sun (Australia): Practise makes China see red

Wednesday, January 26, 2005

THOUSANDS of people have been killed in China for
doing the exercise Falun Gong, but a steady group of people practise freely every
day on the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast Falun Dafa spokesman John Andress said
the practice was banned in China in 1999 when its growing popularity was seen
as a political threat.

Mr Andress said Falun Gong had no political agenda,
but the authorities politicised it by brutally persecuting practitioners in China
and interfering with their activities overseas.

He said Falun Gong, or Falun
Dafa, was a self-improvement practice for upgrading the body, mind and spirit.
Free exercise classes have been held daily in public on the Gold Coast since 1997.

The
public is welcome to join in daily exercises at Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach, or at
Cascade Gardens in Surfers Paradise on Sunday.
