Falun Dafa speaks at UWS United Nations Society meeting

A student-run Falun Dafa club was invited to speak at a University of Western Sydney’s United Nations Society meeting. A practitioner met with society members at Parramatta campus on 22nd March 2005.

Discussion topics included: what Falun Dafa is, what is happening to Falun Dafa practitioners in China, arbitrary detention, imprisonment without proper legal proceedings, torture, brainwashing, labour camp products and intimidation of foreign governments who speak out against China’s violation of human rights.

The members had heard little about Falun Dafa prior to the meeting. However, they were very interested to hear about the practice and its principles. They were shocked when they saw the extent of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong and how the CCP has pressured Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer into prohibiting the use of Falun Dafa banners outside Chinese embassies and consulates in Australia, for the last three years.

The practitioner left members with Falun Dafa flyers, truth clarification material, a copy of Compassion Magazine and the film titled “Persecution Meets Principle”. This film shows how Falun Dafa practitioners are tortured in China, showing the live reenacted torture methods that practitioners display all around the world. The aim of exhibiting the reenacted torture methods is to raise awareness and portray what is really happening to practitioners in China, simply because they practiced Falun Dafa in the park, read the Falun Dafa books, or just expressed a word of support for it.

The members thanked the practitioner for attending and encouraged him to keep them up to date about the situation in China, as well as any upcoming on campus truth clarification activities.

Falun Dafa raises a question at Detention symposium

On March the 15th 2005 the University of Western Sydney Campbelltown campus held a symposium called “Detention without trial: what are the limits?”. The special guest speaker was the Honourable Justice Michael Kirby from the High Court of Australia. Studying practitioners found this to be a great opportunity to attend the event and clarify the truth about the arbitrary detention of Falun Dafa practitioners in China.

Practitioners took the time to share with each other the importance of making use of this opportunity to clarify the truth. They also realised the significance of the guest speaker clearly knowing the facts, since it could be useful for the Australian Sue Jiang lawsuit.

When practitioners arrived at the event they sent forth righteous thoughts. When they were not sending forth righteous thoughts, they listened to what the speakers were discussing.

When the time came for questions, Falun Dafa practitioners were first to raise the question related to the arbitrary detention of Falun Dafa in China. The question was not just aiming to hear the speaker’s opinion, rather also to clarify the truth to all those in the audience. The speaker said that everyone should be entitled to practice their religion.

After the symposium the audience and speakers gathered in a function room to eat snacks and have a drink. Practitioners attended and clarified the truth to many students and academic present. Just before the Justice left, practitioners thanked him for attending the event. He shook hands with the practitioners, thanked them for raising the question and wished them good luck.
