This is the forth year that the Falun Dafa group in Wollongong was invited to be part of the National Australia Day celebration. The Australia Day program with Falun Dafa was advertised in the local newspaper and Australia Day flyer. Despite the official approval of the group participating in the celebrations being given at the last minute, local practitioners were well prepared for the event.
In the early morning, it was overcast but soon after the Falun Dafa marquee was setup it became beautiful and sunny, so that more people could come out to celebrate the day and to receive the truth of Dafa. Many people were interested in our stall which this year was set up in the middle of the most sought after area with a colourful information display and the “Petals of Peace” project.
This year, even more people happily received our flyer. They also stopped to read the information of Falun Dafa and enquired about our local practice sites. Practitioners tried to explain the story of Fadu, whose father was persecuted to death for practicing Falun Dafa in China. Fadu’s story inspired the “Petals of Peace” project that shows people how and why we fold the paper lotus flowers.
During the exercise demonstration on the stage, many people gathered around and watched the beautiful exercises by western and Chinese practitioners. Afterwards, a lot of these people came over to our display and took more information on the practice and the persecution.
By the end of the day we completely run out of flyers and still more people kept coming over to the marquee to find out about the “Petals of Peace” campaign.
