Friday, 12 March 2004. TANG Yiwen’s life is confirmed to be in a critical condition
according to a telephone conversation to Australia this morning from her father,
Mr Liang. Tang is the sister of Australian citizen Lisa Liang, an Australian
Falun Gong practitioner in Sydney. Ms Liang is currently in Geneva attempting
to appeal to the United Nations Commission on Human Right, convening on 15 March.
This is the largest global forum for human rights, which is chaired by Australia
this year.
Ms Tang is currently detained at Guangzhou Legal School (which has been converted
into a brainwashing centre) in Chatou, Baiyuan District, Guangzhou province
of Southern China and is currently on a hunger strike.
Life In Danger
Mr Liang was crying for help on the phone today as he called long distance from
China. He raised the alarm that his daughter TANG Yiwen had been illegally detained
again and her life was in danger. Ms Tang’s husband had visited her last night,
her condition was extremely weak and she couldn’t talk. After 17 days of a hunger
strike to protest the illegal arrest and detention she is still not released.
The Kidnap
Tang Yiwen was kidnapped on 23rd Feburary and yesterday (11/3/04) Yiwen’s husband
was informed by Haizhu District Branch of the Public Security Bureau to go to
see her. He went yesterday evening and found out that she was extremely weak,
couldn’t talk and basically in a critical condition, after 17 days of hunger
strike to protest the illegal arrest and detention. Yet, she is still not released.
The relatives of five Australian citizens have been detained at this same labour
camp.
The following information was passed to the Department of Foreign Affairs and
Trade, China Division, this morning (12 March 2004), with a request to contact
the Australian Consulate in Guangzhou or anything else in their power to help
before it’s too late.
