Seek Investigation into Shootings in South Africa
On
Sunday, 11 July, hundreds of Australians from around the country appealed to the
Australian Government, at Kirribilli House by individually hand delivering a personal
letter to Prime Minister Howard to investigate the attempted murder of 9 Citizens
in South Africa. It is an attempt to stop violence and terror acted against Australians
inside and outside the borders of the country.
Gun shot-wounded Australian
– David Liang (42 years old) was hit by two bullets, one in each foot. He also
joined the event and hand-delivering a letter at Kirribilli House through the
federal police.
On Monday 28 June 2004,
Australian citizen, David Liang, was driving one of two cars with 8 other Australians
en route from the Johannesburg airport to Pretoria around 8:30pm when a white
car with three occupants overtook them and fired at least five shots into the
vehicle. David was hospitalised with bullet wounds. The assailants made no attempt
of robbery. South African Police have classed the attack as attempted murder.
Police spokesperson in Pretoria, Inspector Dennis Adril, said that the location
of the incident is not a place with a high crime rate.
The 9 Australians were
visiting South Africa to assist with the initiation of a lawsuit against two visiting
Chinese officials, Vice president Zeng Qinghong and Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai,
for charges of torture, genocide and crimes against humanity in the persecution
of Falun Gong in China.
David
returned to Sydney on Monday 5 July 2004 and is recovering in the Prince of Wales
Hospital, Randwick. He is available for interview for appealing to the Australian
people in search of justice.
