From October 9 to 10, 2002, traditional Chinese artist and Australian Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Cuiying held an exhibition of her paintings in Dallas City Hall. The visitors enjoyed the beautiful paintings and were also able to understand the truth of the persecution of Falun Gong in China. All were shocked at the facts of the persecution. Several media teams covered the event and reported immediately.
Zhang Cuiying exhibited several dozen paintings in the show. Her elegant Chinese paintings with deep artistic implications made visitors sense the richness and broadness of Chinese culture. Many visitors had their photos taken in front of the paintings. Because the exhibition was during the week, many people came to city hall and stopped to see the paintings. They also picked up truth-clarifying literature to read.
The practitioners also exhibited a photo of the artist when she returned to Australia after being released from a Chinese prison. The photo shows Zhang Cuiying wearing a T-shirt on which she wrote a poem with her own blood having nothing else to write with. Beside the photo was a sketch showing she was tortured in prison. The artist’s personal experience made the kind-hearted American people surprised and indignant. Many visitors signed the postcards to President Bush to express their condemnation of Jiang’s regime and to ask President Bush to support Falun Gong practitioners’ human rights and help end the persecution. One girl left a short letter expressing her understanding and appreciation of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.
Reporters from both Chinese and English media came to interview Zhang Cuiying, including Dallas’s largest newspaper Dallas Morning News, as well as the Chinese newspaper World Journal, and the Epoch Times. Some reporters from a radio broadcasting station covering other news came across the painting exhibition and interviewed the artist right away. The interview was broadcast immediately. Five minutes later, a gentleman hurried in to see the paintings. He told the practitioners that he came after he heard the news report form the radio broadcasting station.
