Arrest During Chinese National Day

Falun Dafa Practitioner Li Liang from Tianjin City was
Secretly Arrested

On October 5, 2004, a media event was held in front
of the Chinese Consulate in Sydney by Falun Gong practitioners in order to condemn
the secret arrest of the Falun Gong practitioner Li Liang of Tianjin city of northern
China, brother of Li Ying who currently is living in Sydney.

On
October 2, 2004, the second day of China’s National Holiday period, policeman
Geng Tao of Hedong District Police Department of Tianjin City came to Li Liang’s
home at about 3:00 p.m. As Li Liang went to work early in the morning, only his
elderly parents were at home. The policeman casually chatted with the two seniors,
straying far from the subject. As his parents have served in the army in the past,
he asked a lot about their experience in the army at that time. Li Liang’s parents
were very surprised why Geng Tao had time to come to their place just for chatting.

An hour later, their questions were answered. At about 4 p.m., the sound
of numerous steps was heard. As soon as Li Liang’s father opened the door, two
policemen, who claimed to be from Hebei Police Department, came in. One was called
Song Xiaosheng, the other was called Liu Guangtao. They started to search the
house. Soon came more policemen whose names were Chen Qing from Hedong Police
Department, as well as Liu Yuying from the Community Committee and another staff.
They searched for an hour, but only found 3 copies of Zhuan Falun (the main book
of Falun Gong), and 2 pieces of CDs with unknown content. Upon their departure,
a policeman even said to Li Liang’s parents, "We’ve been polite enough to
you, we did not made your house too messy." Only when the policemen came
to search the home did Li Liang’s parents realized that Li Liang was arrested
again. Seeing the mess in the house, Li Liang’s parents had nothing to say.

But
this was not the end of the troubles. At about 8 p.m, Geng Tao brought another
young policeman, asking Li Liang’s parents who the owner of the books was, what
content was on the CDs, and who they normally contact with, etc. They did not
leave until over half an hour later.

At about 4:00 p.m. on October 3, Li
Liang’s mother went to Wanghailou Police Station of Hebei District of Tianjin
City to ask of the whereabouts of Li Liang. The policemen Liu Shiwei and Yang
Jian said they were just about to send her the warranty of custody. According
to the Chinese law, one’s family should be notified within 24 hours after one
is arrested. Though Li Liang was arrested before 3:00 p.m. on October 2, the two
policemen argued that the arrest only started at 10:55 a.m. on October 2. They
also forced his mother to sign it, threatening that she would not be allowed to
bring clothes to Li Liang, despite the weather getting colder and colder.

Situation
Prior to 2004:

Li Liang was arrested in July 1999 in Beijing and was
released in Tianjin City a month later. At the end of October 1999, he was arrested
again for writing the appeal letter. He was illegally sentenced to the forced
labor camp for one year and a half, and was detained in the notorious Shuangkou
Detention Center of Tianjin City. After his period expired, the detention centre
would not release him. Instead, they illegally prolonged his term and transferred
him to Yushan Forced Labour Camp, Ji County of Tianjin City.

In April 2004,
as Li Liang refused to give up practicing Falun Gong, he was detained into Jianxin
Forced Labor Camp. Soon he was sentenced to 2 years of forced labor, and was held
in Qingbowa Forced Labor Camp. Li Liang did not get any freedom until May 22,
2004.

Both
the two sisters of Li Liang were detained in the forced labor camp. His elder
sister was sent to forced labor camp for twice, and is currently is detained in
Banqiao Forced Labor Camp of Tianjin City. To the outsiders, this place is called
Banqiao Farm instead. His younger sister was released after being detained in
the women’s forced Labor Camp of Shanghai. Later because of the rescue effort
of overseas government and society, she was rescued into Australia and lives with
