Dear Mr Howard,
I would like to make a request that during your upcoming meeting/s with the new Chinese leaders in China you forward the strong sense of concern and disgust that many Australians including myself feel at the treatment of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
What is taking place currently in China is reminiscent of Nazi Germany. There are stories of atrocities being committed against Falun Gong practitioners coming out of China more and more so everyday. The fact that this is not plastered all over our TV’s, radio and newspapers is due to the blockade of such information getting out of China. Nevertheless, the facts about many thousands of human rights atrocities have already been documented. The repression and persecution of Falun Gong practitioners as you well must know by now is instigated from the highest official level. Therefore any statements made by Chinese officials that there has been an “Improvement of Human Rights in China” and that the government is trying its best to improve human rights is in my opinion pure lip service.
How can it be possible to be on the one hand improving Human Rights while on the other instigating and overseeing crimes against humanity on a mass scale. To buy into such rhetoric is an insult to everyone including to the millions of people suffering under the official corrupt policies of the Chinese regime.
I don’t believe that I am saying anything here that you or your office doesn’t already know or couldn’t find out. Mr Howard, as our Prime Minister I appeal to you to not accept and condone the inhumane actions being currently carried out in China by its leaders against Falun Gong practitioners.
The current Chinese leadership is overseeing human rights atrocities equivalent to the most horrific ever seen in history. This is a bold statement to make and yet I make it because I have read and seen a lot more about this persecution than the everyday Australian. Anyone can access much of this information at www.faluninfo.net. As more and more of the truth is revealed about this persecution, the public in Australia and people world wide will question why countries such as Australia sat back and stayed publicly silent about it. If we Australians treat the
leaders of a government who instigate rape, torture, murder, brainwashing, hate campaigns etc. in the same manner as a government who believes in freedom of belief and speech, democracy and values human rights, then in what way are we encouraging repressive regimes to change. Are we not condoning their actions by staying publicly quiet? This silence is exactly what these regimes want.
It is very clear that in this case, bilateral discussions behind closed doors with the leadership in China have not worked. The persecution of Falun Gong has only worsened every year since the crackdown in 1999.
I am currently away from home and heard that you were going to be going on this trip and felt inclined to write to you. This letter has been written relatively quickly and I hope the tone of what I have written is in no way disrespectful.
I know that you respect family values, common decency and so I hope that you might do everything in your power to help the innocent people in China who have no voice to speak up for their own rights. I believe that by helping these people we will truly create a brighter future and relationship for both of our countries in the long term. Short-term benefits offered by corrupt regimes can only be short-lived.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and I wish you a successful trip.
Kindest regards,
An Australian Citizen
