BEIJING, Jan 24 (AFP) – The Australian embassy in Beijing said Friday it was
investigating claims that one of its nationals has been kidnapped in China’s
southwestern Chengdu province.
“The embassy has been in contact with authorities in China to try to
establish the whereabouts of Nancy Chen,” a spokesman told AFP.
“However, we have no information of her whereabouts at present.”
He said Chen’s family had informed the embassy that she had disappeared.
Chen apparently called her mother early Wednesday to say she had been
kidnapped.
