An Australian Falun Gong member says she was held at a hotel in south-west
China’s Chengdu city by police wanting to know more about her activities.
Nancy Chen, 35, who was put on a flight to Hong Kong after her recent
release, said she was followed after arriving in Chengdu on January 21 on a
family visit.
Ms Chen, a member of the Falun Gong spiritual group which is banned in China
as an xxx, says eight undercover police followed her everywhere she
went in Chengdu.
She says she went to the US consulate for assistance and was allowed to make
phone calls to her family, but was not permitted to seek refuge.
There is no Australian diplomatic mission in Chengdu.
Ms Chen says she was then held at her hotel after she tried to book a flight
back to Sydney via Hong Kong.
