Townsville Bulletin/Townsville Sun: Exhibit focuses on persecution

THE TORTURE of Falun Gong followers in China is depicted in an art exhibition opening in Townsville tomorrow.

Local practitioners of the controversial meditation and exercise movement have arranged the week-long exhibition at Flinders Gallery.

Titled Uncompromising Courage, it has previously been seen in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Mackay and Bowen.

Only one of the 16 artists represented is still in China, whereabouts unknown, according to the exhibition web page, www:falundafaartexhibit.net.

Most of the others live in Canada and the US, and a few are based in Taiwan, Japan and Australia.

The movement has been banned x in China and thousands of practitioners have been tortured and killed, according to a statement from the exhibition organisers.

They say their goal is to expose this harassment and to bring about change.

The exhibition will be opened tomorrow , at 6.30pm in the Flinders Gallery,
693 Flinders St, city, with a performance and display of Falun Gong exercises, and can be seen until next Wednesday, September 7.
