By an Australian Falun Dafa practitioner
In the last few days the University of Western Sydney’s Falun Dafa Club
held a floral tribute to remember the 1,000 Falun Dafa practitioners who had been
tortured to death in China, during the last five years of persecution.
The event was held at Penrith campus as part of the university Human
Rights Environmental Student Collective’s organised human rights day.
Practitioners displayed dozens of paper-folded lotus flowers on the
lawns of the busiest area on-campus and hung display boards near
walkways. One business student stopped and read about the torture
methods employed in prisons and labour camps to persecute Falun Dafa
practitioners in China. He commented that he was familiar with the human
rights situation in China and that he had studied about the Great
Cultural Revolution. Practitioners explained that the same and even
worse methods are being used today in Chinese prisons and labour camps,
to torture practitioners into giving up their belief in Falun Dafa’s
principle of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance.
Although practitioners suffer a lot from torture, they still are firm
with their belief and are able to let others understand the peaceful
nature of Falun Dafa and bring out their conscience and sense of moral
justice. Many Chinese prison guards have reportedly been moved to tears
and released Falun Dafa practitioners soon after learning the truth
behind the façade of brainwashing and propaganda in China.
During the busier part of the day practitioners held an exercise
demonstration and free meditation workshop. Some new learners also
joined in and shared experiences with veteran practitioners. One new
learner said “Falun Dafa is so great! Why didn’t you tell me about this
sooner?”.
After the workshop a middle-aged man approached practitioners and
expressed his support of Falun Dafa’s peaceful response to the Jiang
faction’s five-year-long persecution. He was very knowledgeable of
social injustice in China and could understand some of the ulterior
motives that certain members from the Jiang faction could have, in
persecuting Falun Dafa.
A Falun Dafa practitioner and member of the Human Rights Environmental Student
Collective held a short presentation and discussion about the practice
of Falun Dafa, the persecution in China and the floral display. They
also taught students how to fold lotus flowers.
