by a Sydney practitioner
Last week practitioners from Sydney-based
universities held a Falun Dafa stall at University of New South Wales Foundation
Day. Activities consisted of handing out fliers and sweet bags, paper folding
lotus flowers and exercise demonstrations.
Activities began with a Falun
Dafa group exercise demonstration on the lawns near a very busy footpath. Many
students stopped and watched the graceful movements, while others stopped and
spoke with the standing practitioner. When the practitioner also began doing the
exercises, a group of students came and stopped, seeing the flowers. One from
the group walked over, picked one up, accidentally dropped it on the footpath
and stepped away. A practitioner saw this, stopped doing the exercises, picked
up the flower and told the group that they could keep it if they wanted to.
The
group was a little surprised at first, but happily accepted. One student asked
the practitioner why Falun Dafa is persecuted in China. The practitioner explained
the nature of Jiang’s regime, how religion or spiritual practices have long been
persecuted, and how Jiang’s intense jealousy and fear of Falun Dafa’s popularity
led him to launch a nation-wide crackdown, despite his Premier’s and Politburo
Standing Committee’s objections. The students were quite shocked to hear about
the brutal torturing and slave labour that practitioners are subjected to in Chinese
prisons and labour camps.
Another student was very interested in hearing
about Falun Dafa’s principles. After the practitioner shared a little, he was
very moved, shook hands with the practitioner and said that he has a solemn respect
for those who have found a spiritual path in their lives and wished the practitioner
all the best.
At the stall many people approached to see the paper-folded
lotus flowers. Many commented on how beautiful the flowers are and asked if they
take one. Practitioners explained that this flower in many ways is like Falun
Dafa. It is a very beautiful practice, but very delicate. Unfortunately it is
being crushed in China, because the former dictator is intensely jealous of its
popularity. However, just like in nature, sometime in the future Falun Dafa will
regenerate, become stronger to the harsh elements and reach a full bloom.
Other
practitioners told the story of little Fadu and how folding lotus flowers can
help persecuted children in China. Many students, after hearing about Fadu, asked
how they can help. Practitioners showed a petition, which the students happily
signed. Some were so captivated by the beauty of the lotus flowers that they even
came back asking for more.
