On Friday evening, at King George Square in Brisbane, practitioners from southeast
Queensland held a candlelight vigil in remembrance of Liu Chengjun, who died from
torture on 26th December 2003. Mr Liu was one of the courageous practitioners
who were the first to tap into and broadcast Falun Gong truth-clarifying videos
in China over the TV cable network system. This first broadcast occurred in Changchun
City, Jilin Province. The broadcast so infuriated Jiang Zemin that he ordered
the police to kill Falun Gong practitioners without mercy. Over the next few days,
over 5,000 people believed to be practitioners were arrested, with many deaths
reported by inside sources. Eight deaths have been officially confirmed. When
Mr Liu was captured, he was shot twice in the leg, even after he was handcuffed.
After suffering severe torture for 21 months, Mr Liu died the day after Christmas.
Eyewitnesses stated there were bloodstains near Liu Chengjun’s nose, in his
ear and on his thighs, and the authorities immediately cremated his body within
seven hours without conducting any autopsy the same day that he died to cover
up their crimes.
On this solemn evening, practitioners not only honoured Mr Liu and all those
who have given their lives to uphold Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance,
but also brought this and all the other heinous crimes of Jiang Zemin to the
attention of the public. Many people stopped on the square to read the banners
and poster boards about Mr Liu’s death and the many other crimes of Jiang over
the past 4 ½ years. They learned of the lawsuits around the world that
have been filed against Jiang for genocide and crimes against humanity. Many
signed petitions, spoke with practitioners and offered their sympathy and took
literature to learn more about Falun Gong.
Such courageous deeds will long be remembered in history as a testament to
the many practitioners of Falun Gong who have tried their best to unblock the lies and deceit of Jiang and to bring the
facts about Falun Gong and Jiang’s persecution of Falun Gong to the people of
China and the world.
