Melbourne: Chinese People of Conscience Should Stand Up and Say “No!” (Photos)

— Falun Gong Practitioners Mourn the Death of Ouyang Ming

On the evening of October 10, Falun Gong practitioners and friends of Ouyang
Ming’s brother held a candlelight memorial and press conference in front of
the Chinese Embassy in Melbourne, Australia to mourn the death of Ouyang Ming,
a Falun Gong practitioner in Hubei Province, China. Practitioners called for
an end to the persecution of Falun Gong and appealed to bring arch-criminal
Jiang Zemin to justice.

Bring Jiang to justice

As the director of the memorial meeting and spokesperson of the Australian
Falun Dafa Association in Victoria, Ms. Kati Vereshaka said, "Ouyang Ming
had been subjected to more than 108 kinds of torture before he died. Jiang carried
out his genocide policy on Falun Gong practitioners. This persecution harms
not only innocent people, but also the principles of ‘Truth, Compassion and
Tolerance.’ It is the most terrible thing to damage human nature and morality."

Fan Huiqiang gave a speech on behalf of Falun Gong practitioners. He said that
Ouyang Ming’s brother, Mr. Ouyang Yu, lives in Melbourne. He had tried all possible
means to rescue his brother but this tragedy still happened. Mr. Ouyang Yu is
filled with grief and indignation. Family members of more than ten Australian
citizens are still jailed in China because they practice Falun Gong. They are
subject to brainwashing and cruel torture. Their families in China and overseas
have suffered a great loss and have been traumatized mentally and economically.

A representative of Overseas Chinese Democratic Coalition, Mr. Gao Jian, said
that he was a friend of Ouyang Yu. He was shocked to hear that Ouyang Ming had
been tortured to death. He couldn’t believe it. It reminded him of the more
than 80 million abnormal deaths caused by all kinds of persecutions since the
Chinese Communist Party came to power. "After reading the report, I think
this is another life that the Communist Party owes its people. My friend asked
me why I would attend this meeting, for I am not a Falun Gong practitioner.
I said, ‘The Communist Party killed many democratic movement followers on June
4, 1989. If I ignore that because I am not a democratic movement follower, or
when Falun Gong is persecuted, if I ignore it because I am not a Falun Gong
practitioner, nobody will speak for me when I am persecuted someday.’ I think
all Chinese of conscience should stand up and say ‘No’ in the face of the Chinese
ruling party’s cruel persecution of Falun Gong which severely violates international
conventions."

Before the candlelight memorial meeting, 3AK, a radio station in Melbourne,
conducted a live interview with Ms. Vereshaka. The radio host was shocked to
learn that tragedies like Ouyang Ming’s are still happening in China in 2003.
After learning that this kind of thing is still common in China, the host called
on his audience to come to the Chinese Embassy and support Falun Gong practitioners’
memorial activity.
