In reference to your article “Letter to Editor” published on AFR on June 25th 2003 Wednesday Sec:News,Letters pg. 59.
My name is Colleen May, I am fourth generation Australian and I am a Falun Gong Practitioner of 3 years now and I would like to say that Falun Gong cannot beheld in too high esteem. I aspire to the greatest of my ability to live by the principals of Falun Dafa (Gong) which teaches people to follow the universal principals of Truthfulness-Compassion–Forbearance, so the practitioners experience deep spiritual awareness and maintain high moral standards. A great injustice is being done to these gentle but strong people in China.
I do not (and indeed no other practitioner) believe in taking a life, which includes my own, not even in the most dire situation. In the 4 years that Falun Gong has been banned in China practitioners have been persecuted for simply wanting to practice a set of gentle exercises and follow the principals of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance and in that time there has not been one case of verbal or physical abuse from any Falun Dafa practitioner. This must be a sign of strength as anyone can curse and shout abuse and physically fight other people.
There is nowhere in Mr. Li Hongzhi’s books that says you are forbidden from taking medication or going to doctors or hospitals if you are ill or hurt. It is true however that
as a result of Forced Labour camps, jails and mental institutions there have been practitioners tortured, brainwashed and killed for their beliefs’.
I am sure you are a righteous newspaper with good and kind people at the helm. I just wanted to clarify a few points about the letter to the editor on Wednesday.
To borrow the words from a very famous man,”An injustice done anywhere is an injustice everywhere”.. Martin Luther King.
