The “Global Coalition Against Article 23 Legislation” today organised
the “Breaking The Great Wall of Silence – Global Effort Against Article
23 of Hong Kong” gathering in front of the Chinese Consulate in Sydney
to raise public awareness of the impact of the current draft of Article 23,
and to support Hong Kong citizens’ July 1st Grand March.
Representatives of the “Chinese Labour Party”, the “Against
Article 23 Organisation”, Falun Gong group, UTS and the “Federation for a Democratic
China” spoke out to condemn the introduction of Article 23 legislation
in Hong Kong, legislation that limits freedom of speech and belief in Hong Kong.
They exposed the atrocities and lies committed by the Chinese Communist regime
that is now extending to Hong Kong and beyond.
A “Walk of Silence” march to Chinatown followed the event, where
a role play of real life examples of the impact of Article 23 on citizens and
travellers to Hong Kong took place.
Many Western and Chinese media, Reuters, AFP, SMH, ABC TV, Australian NewsDaily, Epochtimes and NTDTV also attended the event, reporting concern about
the consequence which Article 23 may bring to both the people of Hong Kong and
the rest of the world.
