The persecution of Falun Gong violates the Declaration of Human Rights and
the Convention Against Torture which China has signed and ratified. It also
violates Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
which affords protection to all belief systems not covered by the category of
religion. Surely all the countries throughout the world, including Australia
and of course China, that have signed these three treaties have a moral obligation
to end this most serious violation of basic human rights against tens of millions
of people.
Falun Gong practitioners are greatly concerned about the letter to the editor
published in the Financial Review newspaper, June 25th, 2003. It encapsulates
all the lies and anti-Falun Gong propaganda that the Chinese government can
muster to defame Falun Gong practitioners both in China and overseas. Their
fabrications have NEVER been substantiated by third party organizations. Moreover,
since Falun Gong is practised in 60 countries, why is it that only in China
are there any ‘problems’?
Recently, two high-level Chinese government officials have been found guilty,
in the U.S. San Francisco District Court, of overseeing the torture of practitioners
of Falun Gong. The evidence of atrocities committed by the persecutors headed
by Jiang Zemin – the architect of the brutal policy of eradicating Falun Gong
– is mounting. Sitting officials cannot claim immunity from suit for crimes
against humanity. No one is above the law.
It is no accident that the first step of the persecution was the destruction
of millions of best selling Falun Dafa books and exercise tapes so that people
who did not know about Falun Gong could not check for themselves. In 1999, the
propaganda against Falun Gong permeated all the Chinese media channels, day
and night. Indeed why would the Chinese government invest so many resources
(allegedly up to a quarter of GDP) in the persecution of Falun Gong?
“Such slander and misinformation cannot be taken lightly, as it is the
lives of millions that are at risk in the persecution of Falun Gong. We hope
that the Australian public can be allowed to know the true and verifiable facts
of the situation, rather than the propaganda forced upon foreign soil in tragic
attempts to justify genocide.” Kay Rubacek, Australian Falun Dafa Spokesperson.
