About 300 Falun Dafa practitioners from across Australia converged on the
Parliament House forecourt yesterday to raise awareness about the Chinese
Government’s repression of the meditation and exercise practice. Yesterday
marked the third anniversary of National Falun Dafa Day.
The Chinese Government outlawed the practice in July 1999, amid fears it was reaching
more hearts and minds than the ruling Communist Party. It estimated about
100 million people from more than 60 countries practise Falun Dafa.
NSW Falun Dafa spokesman John Deller said yesterday’s peaceful demonstration on
the doorstep of Parliament House and the ensuing parade to the Chinese
embassy were held to debunk the myths surrounding the practice. ‘This day is
about showing the beauty and practice of Falun Dafa to the Australian public
as well as raising awareness to the persecutions in China,’ he said.
