Press Statement on Recent “China jails 180 Falun Gong members” – SARS IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO PERSECUTE

Sydney (Falun Dafa Information Centre): 180 Falun Dafa practitioners were jailed
in the northern province of Hebei, the Chinese State radio has issued false allegations
that “[Falun Dafa] claimed that the SARS outbreak in China was a warning to those
who persecute and hate the Falun Dafa,” according to Reuters report (June 5,
2003)

“Human rights groups said the government was taking advantage of the SARS
crisis to start a particularly brutal crackdown on political and Internet dissidents,
hoping the international community was distracted by the epidemic.” [http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/PEK230924.htm]

Thomas Dobson, Australian Falun Dafa Information Centre spokesperson states
that:

  • “The accusations from the Chinese government about the SARS threat
are groundless and a deliberate attempt to defame and frame Falun Dafa practitioners
in China. WHO and the world have identified that there are dubious numbers
about SARS’ victims plaguing the Chinese government since the outbreak.
  • Current lawsuits filed by Falun Dafa practitioners in various countries
against Jiang Zemin for Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity are exposing
the FACTS persecution to the international community.
  • Global rescue efforts for the release of Charles Li, US citizen illegally
imprisoned in China, particularly by the US Government, are also highlighting
    the injustice of the persecution.

Falun Dafa intends to expose lies that are used for persecuting innocent practitioners

Falun Dafa is an apolitical meditation practice, there are no deliberate attempt
to undermine any government, including the Chinese Government and its citizens.
The global message and founding principles that are promoted are Truth, Compassion
and Tolerance.
