Media Release: Falun Gong Commemorates at Bondi Beach Hundreds of Lives Lost to the Persecution in China

SPECIAL PHOTO OPPORTUNITY at BONDI

Sydney (FDI) – Hundreds are expected to participate in a dawn ceremony at Bondi Beach to commemorate the many lives that have been lost to the persecution in China. The ongoing peaceful appeal of Falun Gong has taken place in Australian and around the world; this event will be one of many on a global basis.

April 25 will mark the 4th year Anniversary of the Zhongnanhai Incident. In Beijing 1999, 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners peacefully appealed outside the Chinese Government compound. The aim was to plea for incarcerated fellow practitioners to be freed. But the Chinese regime embarked on a relentless persecution of millions of Falun Gong practitioners which remains a dark chapter in history.

The Zhongnanhai anniversary is a symbolic event and a solemn reminder that freedom of belief and speech is not only denied in China, but valuable lives have been lost unnecessarily, which is a violation of basic humanity. Among the series of tragedies in the world today, including the Bali and September 11th incidents, over 600 practitioners have died in the persecution of Falun Gong in China through unwarranted violence and terror.

Recently, the world has seen the dangers of cover ups and lies which have dictated the policy of the Chinese Communist Regime. China’s propaganda machine has shown its menacing face with the escalating news of the SARS epidemic, it highlights the inaccuracy of Xinhua News Agency reporting and misinformation. This has resulted in the loss of many human lives.

Flowers will be placed in the sea in honour of those who have been persecuted to death and hundreds of candles will be lit for the persecution victims.

Schedule:

When: Saturday April 26, 6:00 – 8:00am
What: Dawn Candle Vigil
Where: Bondi Beach, Sydney

Background: Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a practice of meditation and exercises with teachings based on the universal principle of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance.” Since its introduction in 1992, it quickly spread by word of mouth throughout China, and is now practiced in over 50 countries. With government estimates of as many as 100 million practicing Falun Gong, China’s President Jiang Zemin outlawed the peaceful practice in July 1999.
